Julie Chen announces she is leaving ‘The Talk’ after 9 seasons

Julie Chen is stepping down from her role on ‘The Talk’ on CBS one week after her husband Les Moonves left his CEO position at the network amid allegations of sexual misconduct.

The 48-year-old announced her departure from the talk show on Tuesday in a video message from outside the Big Brother house. The decision to leave will become effective immediately.

She has decided that her main focus needs to be clearing her husband’s name from accusations made 25-30 years ago and tending to her son,” a source told Page Six.

In July, Moonves was accused of sexual misconduct in a The New Yorker article and Julie publically showed her support for her husband in a tweet.

Julie took a “leave of absence” from the talk show following its season premiere last week and it was extended on Monday prior to the news of her exit coming out.

The next big question is will Julie continue to host Big Brother? The current season wraps up on September 26, meaning she only has three shows left to host. It is likely she will finish out the rest of the season but beyond that remains up in the air.

During last Thursday’s double eviction, she left viewers speechless when she signed off, using her husband’s last name for the first time ever on the air. It was a clear message to the network she continues to stand by her husband.

Julie making a bold move on live television only fired up speculation that she will not return to the show after the season ends next week. Meanwhile, Big Brother has not officially been renewed by CBS for Season 21 next summer but the second season of Celebrity Big Brother is set to air early next year.

Will Julie return as host? We’ll find out soon enough. But first..
