Actress Marissa J. Winokur was crowned the winner of Celebrity Big Brother US in the most shocking upset of the season, defeating TV personality Ross Mathews by a 6-3 vote.

Sunday’s finale began with showing one of two final Head of Household competitions, with Ross winning the first. He nominated Ariadna Gutiérrez and Omarosa Newman for eviction. The final Power of Veto was played, won by Ross. He elected to not use the veto, keeping his own nominations intact.

As a result, Omarosa finished in fifth place as she was evicted with a 2-0 vote. Speaking to host Julie Chen following her exit, she said she was surprised she had lasted as long as she did.

“I would’ve evicted me five evictions ago,” she said. “I’m surprised I lasted this long.”

Asking about changing her the public perception of her, Omarosa said: “I’ve never been able to be on a show where I can be myself. I’ve always been in a boardroom and the White House, I felt it was time to let my light shine.”

Following the interview and eviction, it was time for the final Head of Household of the season. After seven rounds, it came down to Marissa, Ross, and Mark McGrath. Marissa won the tiebreaker question, sealing her HoH win and place in the final two.

After her win, she had to decide who she wanted to sit next to in the final two. The decision was easy for her as she evicted Ari and Mark, leaving Ross next to her in the top two.

Following the jury questioning, it was time to vote for a winner. Julie revealed that Marissa earned six of the nine jury votes to win the first ever American version of Celebrity Big Brother.

As the winner, Marissa takes home the $250,000 grand prize. Ross gets $50,000 as the runner-up.

“I feel crazy,” Marissa told Julie of her win. “I couldn’t have gotten this far without Ross. I love him and my son I love, he is going to get the thing he asked for now.”

Before the night was over, Julie revealed that Shannon, James, and Ross were in the top three for America’s Favorite Player. Ross had the most votes and took home an additional $25,000.

“I thought I was the villain,” he said after the win.

Big Brother US returns this summer for its 20th season.
